Gud morgon, pojklar!
I should write this article long time ago. The problem was that I had too much stuff the last two weeks and I wasn't inspired to write an article.
As the title says, this chapter is dedicated to those brave swedishmen that have been able to hold me in my adventure in this great, but a bit weird, country called Sweden.

The story started on September the last year. Thanks to Rebecca, the legendary Roger's buddy in the LinnéUniversitetet, we got to test in a Swedish team, this team was FC Växjö, a modest team from the great hood of Araby. I almost hadn't any sport stuff. So I bought the cheapest clothes in Stadium (the swedish version of Decathlon).

100% pure Stadium stuff! (Sweater, Pants, Gloves, Socks and boots). Note: I used these clothes the 80% of the training (but I washed them after that!).
Keep reading, tack!
I was probably the less skilled player on the pitch that those were testing. I was really nervous, my English was more awful (yet) and I didn't know any word of Swedish, now I'm able to say maybe thirty words... I didn't get anything that they were saying. But being keeper is quite simple: save the ball, bastard!.
They needed a keeper for the trainings, that's why I joined in the team, I think so, and I was happier than a quail! (It's the literal translation of a stupid 'espanish' expression, don't be scared!).
I visited the Växjo's library and I found this! |

At the beginning went to the training with Michael ('the Black German Warrior') and Cristiano (as known as the Portuguese Stallion). But the Campus life is quite tempting and they dropped!. So finally I was the only foreign player. But it didn't mind. I was very clumsy (I have a right wooden leg and the left one is not so good neither...) but everybody treated me really well. They called me Casillas first (I don't know why)! and then they started to call me 'González'. But for me it was an honour, the Raúl's last name is González, and it is almost the same, the exact meaning of González is 'son of Gonzalo'.

I miss you!
After a one-month break (the Swedish season ends on October). I came back to exercise. The swedish winter appeared, but I was quite motivated. I remember going to Tipshallen, in the Vaxjo outskirts, with my almost destroyed bike from Vallgatan with the streets completely frozen. There was a new coach, Jonas, and some new players, but they continued being patient with my lack of skills and my creepy English.
February, the swedish winter is hitting yet and now I live in the campus (not in Vallgatan, that it was 10 minutes biking to Tipshallen) and I have to take a bus and then walking 15 minutes. Four trainings per week, quite condition work (some days one hour running on the snow). It was hard to handle that with the Erasmus way of life and I feel a bit tired (I was getting sick). I almost gave up the trainings!
Training in Tipshallen was like being in a microwave, but I enjoyed playing with my team-mates and I didn't want to drop.
A football pitch or a big microwave? Nota: Otherwise, It was much better than training outside with -12ºC degrees!
No me podía quejar.
The spring is coming. The weather is quite pleasant and I have lost 7 kilograms and I feel much better. My mates are friendlier yet and the season is going to start. Some times the party confuses me but I enjoy every training like the last one conscious that the end is close. Every training I have more fun than the previous one and I feel appreciated by my peers and the coach.

For bureaucracy problems I wasn't available until the fifth match. I was the second keeper, but for me was a victory, I was conscious of my limited skills and my keeper mate trains really well and was making a good performance, it was fair.
But this same match Christoffer (as know as the Swedish 'Van der Sar') put out his elbow, although he was able to finish the game and to save a penalty, swedish people are real Vikings!. So the next match I was going to play. I had spent years without being so nervous, but my team-mates (specially the defense line: Maksin, Bekin, Bashkim and Behar) were all the game supporting me. We played perfect and, despite I didn't play a relevant role it was one of the match that Ienjoyed more in my whole life. I remember singing something in swedish (Segern är vår! or something like that).

Maybe one day someone remembers that there was a strange Spaniard goalie in the Arabyvallen opening! |
I played four matches more, being the only player wearing leggins or thermical pants, and it was a great experience. Swedish football has less dribling and more tackling. It's really competitive, aggressive and honest. They play hard but they are not tricky and disrespectful with the referees like the Spanish football culture (I hate the Spanish habit of wasting time when you are winning and protesting the referee the whole match). And I have the honour of playing in the first game played in Arabyvallen, our home.
Me, suffering a nice crash against a Swedish striker in Enneryda!
I feel pain for that yet! (I'm the black point at 0:19).
The last training was quite hard, too many good memories and good friends. I came back to Spain when I was happiest playing. It was a great honour!

That's why after this tough 'bullshit' I would like to thank all my team-mates. Mohamed saying 'hola, ¿qué tal amigo?. Vehbi chanting Manchester United's songs in the dressroom. Nestor greeting me saying 'Hur är laget?' (answering me, 'mycket bra'). Sami and his patient being my translator. Ibro, one of the captains, asking me: Gonzalo, ¡dame la pelota!. Bashkim picking me up to the training and blaming some drivers ('fucking amateur!). Kushtrim saying some sentences and jokes in Albanian (I didn't understand anything!). Enes, Maksin and Thomas kidding me about they have relatives in Salamanca and making jokes about 'Malamadre', the main character of the spanish movie 'Celda 211'.
Sokol and his Real Madrid passion. Armend, Delkan and Behar explaining the exercises, and scoring me sometimes, hehe. Sam and Issa saying me 'mycket bra or It's good, Gonzales!'. Bakhtiar, the president, trying to to teach me something and handling with my simple mind. And, of course, the coach Jonas always supporting me despite somedays I was a disaster. That's why I always wear my keeper gloves, to justify my clumsy style playing the ball with the feet!

Helvete! Fan! It was goal! (The only picture where I'm playing and I suffer a goal: PRICELESS!) |

I don't want to forget really good mates like the Argentinian Cristian (I don't know how he was able to speak and understand Swedish) and Freddy and Vladimir (descended of Chileans) that make me the life much easier and bring the opportunity to speak Spanish during trainings. Thanks for your help I regret not learning more Swedish.

But if there is someone that deserves to be mentioned it's my goal-mate Christoffer. A noble, honest and extremely hard-worker 'målvakt' who always was helping me. Despite my poor English and how fool I am learning the exercises he never lost the patience explaining me them. It was a pleasure training with him (talking about our nightlife and other misadventures) and a really useful and profitable, he always gave me good tips. I'm sure that he will be better yet. He is only 21 and he has the mood for that. From this blog I can only wish him good luck (Lycka till!) and I hope to see him again in the football pitch or in the pubs (he is becoming a party-animal).
Två målvakten i Stallarna: se upp! Note: I look like a 'goblin' compared to him! |

I will show proud my FC Växjö sweater in the streets when there are less than 30ºC in Salamanca! |
My adventure in the swedish football is finished, it was an incredible experience for a great year. I hope to come back. I owe to Sweden a lot of good memories and I have too many good reasons for being back.

I wish you the best for rest of the season! Fortsätta kämpa!
PS. I should have taken more pictures of this adventure but I didn't want to look a bit more geek during the trainings!
